Maud Kearns

"I enjoy working for communities and I have a natural interest in what KGT is trying to achieve because building communities is a lot about developing people and KGT is focused on developing disadvantaged individuals, and if you want to develop a region you have to develop the people at the same time."

Maud has over a decade of experience in the Employment services sector. Her expertise lies in identifying barriers to gaining employment that jobseekers may have such as homelessness, financial, domestic violence, housing, drug and alcohol. She specialises in referrals to the appropriate services required to address these barriers.

Maud possesses qualifications in Indigenous Community Services, Career Development and Training and Assessment and is a strong advocate for Indigenous rights in the local Kununurra Community.

Karen Andrew

"I enjoy working in this small community where services are limited. I also find networking vital to ensure the community peoples are getting wrap-around services that will hopefully empower them to develop the skills necessary to move forward and prosper."

Karen Andrew joined the KGT Committee in 2017. Originally from Queensland, she is a Yuwibarra Land Custodian Elder. Karen holds a number of qualifications such as Bachelor of Social Work, Diploma of Applied Science, Diploma of Human and Community Services, Justice of the Peace, and Level 2 Reiki Practitioner, in addition to many years of experience working in the Education system in Queensland, Mental Health, Dialysis and Youth area in Victoria, and the Kununurra education system.

Karen is employed by Wunan and works in the School to Work Program, an initiative that involves engaging youth from school to part-time or full-time work. She enjoys the challenge of engaging non- attending students and finds it rewarding to see results.

Karen would like to see herself growing by way of building better networking relationships between Kununurra District High School (KDHS) and KGT, with the ultimate goal of securing traineeships or apprenticeships for local eligible youngsters in the community.
